Is Tony Blair just a cynical point gainer?

Why did he wait until he resigned before he became a confirmed Catholic? I admire anyone that had their whole life planned from day one and achieved what they wanted, its obvious that he wanted to be British Prime Minister, but he knew he had no chance if he was Catholic so he put his religious beliefs to the back and concentrated on glory for himself. I had to be baptised made first communion make first confession and make confirmation, i have 3 sacraments left 2 by choice one without choice. Were supposed to do 5 of the 7 scarements, and Tony Blair does it on a whim, because Diana spenser did it and so did Anne Widdecombe. Its all so cool and ethnic now to be a Catholic, yeah Christ sacrificed himself just so tony Blair could get his pic taken with the Pope. Does anybody find this slightly unsettling?
