What is the horizontal, or x-component of this vector?

When graphed as initial and terminal points on the coordinate plane, you would have to move horizontally 4 units to the left to go from your initial point (1, 2) to the terminal point (-3, -4). Since a vector is directed distance we would give a negative to this number (hence -4) indicating a movement left.
