Why is 9mm ammunition bout the same price as .40 ammunition?

I keep looking at buying ammunition in bulk. What confuses me is that 9mm ammunition has gone up to be about the same price as .40 ammunition. I mean a 1000 rounds differs in about 20 bucks. What gives?
