Does anybody know some of the medical consequences of failed suicide attempts?

First of all, I want to make it clear that I am not suicidal at the moment (not that I would be asking about failed attempts if I were.) I'm writing a story where the main character has attempted suicide by cutting his wrists. Emo, I know, but nothing else made sense for the character. I just want to know what the medical consequences would be for the failed attempt - obviously it varies per case, but at least a few cases where the person loses some of their feeling in their arm(s) as I do think that would make sense given the severity of the attempt.
