How to get rid of the smell of minced garlic?

Husband bought a small (plastic) jar of "adam's minced garlic" after using it he placed it in the pantry and now it reeks of garlic. how do i stop the garlic smell from diffusing into the surrounding air? should i put it in a gl jar? refrigerate it? i'm tempted to throw it away even though it's brand new...
